DCU VOICES 80 DCU International Chapters keep the flag flying for St Patrick’s Day It was a busy week of St Patrick’s Celebrations again this year, with DCU Alumni Chapters in three US cities - San Francisco, Washington D.C. and New York - hosting events in the lead-up to St Patrick’s Day 2021, as well as a networking event for the inaugural Alumni Emerging Leaders Programme. Each event was opened with our Master of Ceremonies, Leanne Hanafin (BA in Communication Studies, 2019), followed by a performance of Irish music, and an update from the President, Prof Daire Keogh, about DCU and our 2021 Sunday Times University of the Year. This was followed by a panel discussion and a networking opportunity with graduates building the DCU network and digital transformation/hybrid working. The DCU & Arizona State University St. Patrick’s Celebration was led by graduates from the DCU Emerging Leaders Programme - Emily Carroll, Eoghan Rackard and Aoife Grady. It also included a musical performance, an Irish language lesson by Paula Melvin, a networking opportunity with ASU graduates, a quiz hosted by Liam Kane of the DCU Alumni Office and an update on DCU/ASU partnership. DCU Singapore Chapter show their commitment The DCU Alumni Singapore Chapter was in the fortunate position of holding its first in-person event - a special 30th anniversary film screening of The Commitments on 22nd March, 2021. The event was held at an international school GEMS/XCL World Academy (Singapore) in the northern part of the city-state. The event opened with a live Irish music performance by DCU graduate, Aoife Mulligan. DCU President, Prof Daire Keogh, also joined us virtually from Dublin and provided an update on how DCU has responded to the pandemic over the past year and spoke about opportunities open to the DCU alumni to volunteer as mentors to current students. Our VIP guest for the evening was Ireland’s Ambassador to Singapore, and DCU Alumnus, Mr. Pat Bourne, who reminded the graduates that the invitation still stands to host a future in-person event at his residence in Singapore when it is safe to do so. We look forward to growing our new Chapter here in Singapore with more in-person, social and cultural networking events as pandemic restrictions are further eased in Singapore.
