DCU Prospectus 2026
95 module is entirely project-based and embodies the key principles of mechatronic engineering. It is organised around a specific robotic design challenge and will give you an opportunity to integrate and expand your knowledge in several different core areas: digital and analogue electronics, mechanics, software development and control systems. AutomatedManufacture This area allows you to develop an understanding of howelectronics, embedded systems and software are used in the automation of manufacturing. Project-based Learning Youwill complete various projects during your 4 years. Projects are designed to developmechatronic skills and awareness culminating inmajor individual projects in Year 4. The projects will normally include elements of research, design, component sourcing, construction, testing and documentation. All projectsmust be based on at least 2 of the 3 coremechatronic elements (namely; mechanical, electronic and software design components). Students have the option to undertake an integratedMasters fromYear 3, subject to achieving aH2.2 or higher in Years 1 and 2. INTRAWork Placement In Year 3, youwill undertake a paid work placement through the INTRA programme, lasting 6months for most students, and 10months for those on the integratedMEng pathway. INTRA offers a valuable opportunity to enhance your CV, boost your employability, and apply your academic knowledge and skills in a real-world setting, positioning you competitively in the jobmarket. Whilemost placements are basedwith businesses in Ireland, there are also opportunities to gain international experiencewith some of theworld’s leading companies.
