Then the BSc in Sport Science andHealthwill appeal to you. Additional Requirements In addition to the general entry requirements for admission to the University (see page 174), the following entry requirements apply: minimum of O4 or H6 inMathematics PLUS minimumof O4 or H6 in one of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics with Chemistry or Agricultural Science. Understanding: Sport Science andHealth Sport and exercise scientists study research and advise on the scientific factors influencing sport and exercise. With their detailed knowledge, they can give specialist, evidence-based advice to improve performance and health. Youwill design and administer appropriate methods of assessment and create exercise or training programmes of a technical, physiological or psychological nature to improve health or sporting performance. The coursewill provide youwith the scientific basis to further study and become an expert in areas including sports psychology, nutrition, coaching, biomechanics, strength and conditioning or physiotherapy. Research and project work will include synthesising information to informed evidence based areas of research in the sporting, health, andwellness industries. Course Structure Youwill develop a detailed understanding of the scientific aspects of sport, health and exercise. Youwill also learn how these are investigated and applied. The objective of the course is to produce well-informed sport science graduates who think critically and creatively, can apply knowledge and are prepared for employment in a variety of sectors. In Year 1, youwill be introduced to the key science subjects that form the backbone of this course. These include chemistry, physics, physiology, psychology and sociology. In addition, there are a range of practical classes and sessions in sport and physical activity. In Year 2, youwill learn how the scientific subjects of Year 1 are applied to the study of sport, exercise and health. The topics illustrate thewide range of material covered in this exciting course – fromnutrition and genetics to sport psychology, anatomy and sociology. Vocational aspects like fitness assessment, coaching studies and health promotion are covered in Years 2 and 3. In Year 4, you have a choice to focus on the sport, health or talent development aspects of the course. There is also a major research project, whichwill help you combine your knowledge of the theoretical and practical areas of sport and exercise. INTRAwork placement In Year 3, youwill have the opportunity to undertake a 6month long paid work placement (INTRA) giving you a unique opportunity to enhance your CV, increase your employability, and apply your knowledge and skills in the real world.
