Applicants wishing to commence the Primary BEd (Englishmedium) through the Gaeltacht Entry RouteDC003must meet the following updated criteria in order to be eligible to apply for entry to the course, which is done through the CAOprocess. a) Be resident in aGaeltacht Language Planning area, and b)Must obtain at least aH3 in LeavingCertificate Irish Apart from the requirement tomeet both of the 2 criteria listed above, applicants must alsomeet all the other requirements for entry to the Primary BEd as normal and any particular matriculation requirements for HEI they are applying to. DC004 Church of IrelandCentre pathway (Restricted Entry) Youmust apply through CAOby 1 February. Late applications cannot be accepted. Youwill be sent a separate eligibility assessment form by theUniversity inMarch. If you hold a minimumof H6 or O4 in Irish, youmay be offered a place, but only if there are too fewapplicants withH4 in Irish. A LinkModule of the LeavingCertificate Vocational Programmemay be presented as one of the 6 subjects for the calculation of points but will not qualify as a subject for matriculation purposes. GardaVetting Garda vetting has been introduced for students who have unsupervised access to children and vulnerable adults as part of their studies at DCU. Youmust successfully pass theGarda vetting process in order to complete the process of registration. Understanding: Bachelor of Education Primary Teaching Teaching is a highly skilled and challenging activity. It requires expert knowledge, but also the ability to apply that knowledge flexibly and to adapt it quickly to new situations. Teachersmust be able to handle unexpected events in the classroomand to use these imaginatively to promote learning. Wewill give you the opportunities you need to develop your subject knowledge, your understanding of how children learn and how schools work, and your classroommanagement skills. DC002/DC003 students who choose the optional Catholic denominational strand take threemodules in Catholic Religious Education. Studentsmust also successfully complete 3 additional modules leading to aCatholic Certificate in Religious Studies in order to qualify to teach in a school under Catholic patronage. All entrants through theDC004 Church of IrelandCentre pathwaymust be aware of andwilling to support the distinctive ethos of Protestant primary schools. Eligibility will be assessed in late Spring of the year of entry via a separate eligibility assessment form.
