44 36. Design of a Test Platform for Biofouling on Cables andMooring Lines – Project II Structural Design This project focuses on the structural design of a test platform for studying biofouling on cables and mooring lines, a critical challenge in marine renewable energy systems. The study involves modifying an existing underwater turbine to assess biofouling growth under dynamic conditions. A twin-blade impeller is adapted to accommodate a tensioned nylon rope positioned between two rotating propellers, simulating real-world hydrodynamic forces. Structural analysis includes static deformation and fatigue assessment, considering the interaction between turbine rotation and tidal currents. The research also evaluates material sustainability and cost-effectiveness to ensure a durable and efficient solution. These findings aim to enhance biofoulingmanagement in offshore energy applications.
